The downtown Los Angeles event, called Teen Fest, will be a three-hour celebration of music and pop culture. It will feature performances by Echosmith, Bea Miller, Hey Violet, new Hope Club, PRETTYMUCH, Sleeping with Sirens and STEP. The free event will also offer up food trucks, art installations, games and a Ferris wheel for attendees. It will stream exclusively on YouTube with some of the event appearing during the Teen Choice broadcast.
“Teen Choice 2017 is the premier awards show for teens and about teens, and our partnership with YouTube expands this special event into the audience’s digital lives as never before,” said Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials for Fox. “Teen Fest 2017 will get fans around the world excited for the show and elevate the experience for viewers across every platform.”
In addition to hosting Teen Fest, Paul will also perform at the event with his Team 10 squad. The event will stream live from his channel on Sunday.
Paul’s partnership with YouTube and Fox comes less than a month after he made headlines for disrupting his neighbors, often during filming for some of his popular stunt videos. Days later, he parted ways with Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark. Paul continues to have a large fan base, with nearly 9.7 million subscribers to his YouTube channel.
As part of YouTube’s partnership with Fox around the festival, the Google-owned streamer will use its VR180 technology to create a one-hour live stream of the red carpet preshow of the Teen Choice Awards that will feature commentary, talent profiles and interviews with attendees. “Technologies like VR180 will give YouTube fans around the world an opportunity to experience the red carpet as if they were there,” said Tara Walpert Levy, vp agency and media sales for Google and YouTube.
Fox plans to use the Teen Choice Awards to introduce its new six-second ads, a format first started by YouTube. The Mars and Duracell ads that will air during the awards show will also appear in YouTube’s Teen Fest stream.
“Teen Choice 2017 viewers will get back to the show faster thanks to innovative ad formats, shorter ad pods and fewer commercial breaks, all of which also provides greater attention to and engagement with the brand messages that are shown,” said Dave Levy, executive vp digital revenue for Fox Networks Group.
Teen Fest will kick off Sunday, Aug. 13, at 3 p.m. PT. The Teen Choice Awards will air at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
