AP ImagesFor his spring/summer couture collection, designer Zuhair Murad once again demonstrated the ethereal elegance that has made him a red-carpet favorite, showing pale pastel gowns that looked as light as air but swooshed along the runway dripping with crystals and beading. The man behind Jennifer Lopez‘s Golden Globes look also showed cocktail dresses with attached capes and full skirts with pockets that made the audience erupt into cheers.
“I think he works with women’s bodies and for women’s bodies, instead of trying to make them into boxes,” said Rose McGowan.
McGowan, who sat front row with French starlet Melanie Doutey and stylist (and sister of Lea) Camille Seydoux, donned a plunging pantsuit with a bright, big-shouldered blazer for the show.
“I call this my ‘Dallas Ladies Who Lunch’ outfit. If I had big blonde hair it would be amazing,” she said. The bold look is part of McGowan’s new plan to give up boring, she explained to Pret-a-Reporter.
“People don’t take fashion risks anymore, and I think they’re boring. I basically decided that I want to wear whatever I want whenever I want. I decided not to be boring anymore. I decided to entertain myself,” she said.
At a cocktail party Wednesday night, McGowan wore a vintage mirrored headdress (see below) best described as Egyptian disco, from L.A.’s Millinery Guild. It’s the second wacky hat she’s worn in a week after a purple bob-shaped cap to the Daily Front Row Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
“I’m keen on on supporting L.A. talent, and not just what’s perceived to be L.A. fashion, but a lot of underground stuff that is often exported to Hong Kong or Japan.” She cites Millinery Guild’s S. Montez Murphy and Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais among her Angeleno favorites.
McGowan also compared L.A.’s casual cool to Parisian couture. “There’s such a pride in their craftsmanship and their art. I love that and I feel like everyone respects that here more sometimes than in America where it feels like just buying clothes. Here it’s a show.”
