TBS announced on Monday that Full Frontal With Samantha Bee will have a holiday special called “Christmas on I.C.E.”
The Christmas variety special will feature music and laughter, but will also touch on the current political administration — and take place entirely on an ice rink.
“Personally I don’t buy that Jesus was a Capricorn,” said Bee in a statement. “But I still love Christmas and hope that my ice dancing brings the much-needed joy that this world needs — it’ll make this sprained ankle totally worth it.”
Bee will be joined by a number of special guests throughout the special, including Olympic medalist Adam Rippon. “I did not see her skate before I agreed to this,” joked Rippon. “Can I still back out?”
An ad for the special opens with Bee putting up Christmas decorations. “Oh, hi there. I’m just getting ready for my holiday special,” she said to the camera. “Christmas is a time for families. Even those families we’ve separated, which is why I’m spending this Christmas on ice. Get it?”
The host explained that a portion of the proceeds from the special and merchandise sales will benefit KIND’s Family Separation Response Team, which works to provide legal and social-service aid to immigrant children and their parents who were separated under the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy.
“And we’ll have all the traditions you’ve come to expect: Joy, the border wall, special guests, the birth of the Christ child,” she said as images appear onscreen to illustrate each talking point.
A manger figurine is then shown before I.C.E agent figures intrude. “Don’t answer the door,” shrieked Bee.
The host added that she will spend the special on ice before she is shown stretching while wearing figure skates. “This will be a festive reminder that we fucked over thousands of immigrants and we still haven’t fixed it yet,” she said about the special.
“So come. Feel the joy,” she said, before using a chainsaw to create an ice sculpture that displayed the show’s name.
“Christmas on I.C.E” will air on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 pm ET. The special, which will take place at the PlayStation Theater in New York, will run for 30 minutes and is commercial-free.
