Hulu’s Handmaid’s Tale TV series has often been described as eerily timely, given the current political climate. The book was written by Margaret Atwood back in 1985 and describes a dystopian society for women, many of whom are completely stripped of their rights and forced to bear children for wealthy men and their wives who cannot have biological children of their own.
Funny or Die took the timeliness of the series to a new level, merging clips from the series with footage of Donald and Melania Trump’s interviews. The video shows Elisabeth Moss’ character talking about the horrors of being a handmaid and how society fell in the first place. “When they blamed terrorists and suspended the Constitution, we didn’t wake up then either,” says Moss as images of Trump, Paul Ryan and Mike Pence flash on the screen, as well as footage of immigration officials detaining people.
Trump’s is quoted talking about how deeply troubled women are good in bed, how women who have abortions should be punished and how he may never see his own children.
A cheeky interaction is created between Moss’ character and Trump when he describes something as “so big” and “enormous” and Moss’ character says “Sure.” At the end, Trump shouts about how Hollywood is making Ghostbusters with only women and Moss sinks deeper into her tub.
