Expect a chance of purple reign at this year’s 2016 MTV Video Music Awards: Future has just been added to the performance lineup.
“My creativity comes from me being in the studio and my past situations,” Future can be heard saying in the promo. “It’s about mastering the tone for me. It’s about mastering the melody. It’s about mastering a style. It’s about becoming one with the beat. It’s about taking the beat places the beat never thought it could go.” He adds, “My music is a diary. It carries volumes.”
No stranger to flooding the streets and timelines with new releases, Future will have more than enough material to pull from for his VMA set after scoring three No. 1 albums in the past year with 2015’s DS2, his joint Drake project What a Time to Be Alive and 2016’s Evol. He also released the Purple Reign mixtape earlier this year and contributed to a majority of the tracks on DJ Esco’s Project E.T.: Esco Terrestrial ‘tape.
Other acts slated to hit the VMA stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden include pop superstar Britney Spears and 2016 Video Vanguard honoree Rihanna. The 2016 VMAs will air live on MTV on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
