That the pair is being upped should come as little surprise given their collective success within the comparatively small and tight-knit network group led by John Landgraf.
In fact, it was Balian who identified O.J. Simpson as a worthy subject to explore in what has become an Emmy-winning anthology series for FX. More recently, her focus has included forthcoming X-Men series Legion from Noah Hawley and Tom Hardy’s Taboo. That Balian, who moved from HBO to FX in 2012, will now be working in comedy, a genre for which FX and FXX have had considerable success, will present a new challenge and opportunity.
“Gina Balian is one of the smartest and most talented development executives in the industry,” noted Schrier. “Her track record of success speaks for itself, which is a direct reflection of the trust and respect producers and writers have for her. We are truly looking forward to Gina having oversight of all original series development for FX Networks and FXP.”
Since Frank joined the company in 2008, he has not only overseen some 20 active series at any given time but also worked on FX Productions projects including Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi for Amazon. In his new role, he’ll expand the studio’s outside output still more.
“For almost a decade, Jonathan Frank has played a vital role in the success of FX Networks, doing an extraordinary job of the day-to-day management and oversight of our current series,” Grad said. “It is only fitting that he will now expand his role to include the management and distribution of FXP original series produced for non-FNG outlets, as he so ably has done with the acclaimed FXP comedy series One Mississippi for Amazon. We expect growth in the output of FXP-produced series for other platforms, and Jonathan is the right person to shepherd those properties.”
Added Anonymous’ partners: “As a partner at ICM, Nicole was an extraordinary representative, and she followed that career to become a highly regarded production executive at one of the most dynamic and innovative networks on TV. The breadth and depth of Nicole’s career make her uniquely suited to thrive at Anonymous Content, and we’re thrilled to welcome such tremendous talent to our team.”
