Gabrielle Union is joining the cast of Sleepless Night, the Jamie Foxx action thriller being made by Open Road Films.
At the same time, the actress, who currently stars in the BET drama Being Mary Jane, is also in final negotiations to board Keanu, New Line’s comedy from Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
Sleepless Night is a remake of the French film Nuit Blanche and is being directed by Baran bo Odar.
The script tells of a corrupt cop (Foxx) who must retrieve a bag of stolen cocaine to save his son from a murderous crime boss, all the while dodging the man’s henchmen during one night in a casino. Also chasing him are internal-affairs officers, one of whom is played by Michelle Monaghan.
Union will play Foxx’s ex-wife, who figures into the rescue.
Keanu, which is being directed by Peter Atencio, follows two friends (Key and Peele) who decide to act like gangster drug-dealers in order to retrieve a stolen kitten.
Union will play the wife of Key, a woman who wishes her polite lawyer of a husband would assert himself both in and outside of their marriage.
The actress will shoot Keanu this summer in New Orleans then move to Night, which is shooting in Atlanta and Las Vegas.
Union, whose last big-screen outing was in Chris Rock’s Top Five, is repped by CAA, Intellectual Artists Management and Felker Toczek.
