Here on Earth, a Mexican political corruption drama, co-created, directed by and starring Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) has won the inaugural Golden Eye award for best series at the Zurich International Film Festival.
The drama, produced by Bernal’s Gulf Stream shingle together with Fox Networks Latin America, premiered at the CanneSeries TV festival earlier this year. It follows the lives of two men who from their childhood have been caught up in the world of crime and political corruption in Mexico.
Bernal co-created the series with Jorge Dorantes and Kyzza Terrazas. It stars Alfonso Dosal, Tenoch Huerta, Paulina Davila and Ariadna Gil.
Here on Earth beat out seven other high-end series that screened as part of the Zurich festival’s first television sidebar, including the Norwegian period drama State of Happiness and the crime thriller Hackerville from HBO Europe and TNT Serie.
