Gail Berman, who once served as Fox Broadcasting’s president of entertainment, has formed a new joint venture partnership with Fox Networks Group to develop and produce new programming.
The Jackal Group will create scripted and unscripted shows for Fox Broadcasting and sister channels, develop projects for the digital channels, feature films for the studio and for outside distributors, as well as live theatrical entertainment.
Berman, an experienced executive who also headed movie production at Paramount Pictures and ran her own indie company with Lloyd Braun until very recently, will be chairman and CEO of The Jackal Group, reporting to a new board that will include Fox Networks Group chairman and CEO Peter Rice and FNG president/COO Randy Freer.
“Over the last two decades, Gail has built an impeccable track record as one of the industry’s most dynamic and prolific production executives,” said Rice. “We look forward to benefiting from Gail’s creative vision and experience as she seeks out new opportunities for ‘Jackal’ on every possible platform.”
“Peter has given me a tremendous opportunity to do what I love best: Create outstanding content across a variety of media platforms,” said Berman.
Berman’s first association with Fox began in 1998 when she was founding president of Regency Television, a joint venture of Fox and New Regency Productions. In 2000 she became president of entertainment for the Fox network, a period which saw it rise to the top of the ratings for the first time with shows like American Idol and 24.
She left Fox to join Paramount where she had a short tenure as head of movie production before founding BermanBraun, which became a program supplier to the networks and an innovator in the digital space. She exited BermanBraun in January.
Berman is currently producing Dig for the USA network through Tecumseh Productions. Her career began as a Broadway producer with the shows Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Hurlyburly, among others.
