HBO on Monday promoted the Blu-ray and DVD release of Game of Thrones season four in London with a life-size ice sculpture of the Iron Throne from the hit drama.
Time Warner’s HBO said it collaborated with the Glacial Art Ice Sculptors to create the throne in Covent Garden in the British capital to draw fans and raise awareness of the home video release. “Fans of the show were encouraged to #TakeTheThrone for one day only to mark the season-four Blu-ray and DVD release” on Monday, the company said.

HBO U.K. promoted the stunt early in the day, tweeting: “#GameOfThrones and @GlacialArt1 bring the Iron Throne – in ice – to @CoventGardenLdn. #TakeTheThrone today only.”
Displayed throughout the day starting at 9 a.m., the throne offered fans a chance to pretend to be the King of the Seven Kingdoms and sit on or pose with the sculpture made entirely out of ice. It wasn’t immediately known how many fans of the show, starring Kit Harington and others, came out to do so, but a spokeswoman guesstimated that by lunchtime, more than 1,500 people had shown up.

Said sculptor Mat Foster, director of Glacial Art Ice Sculptors: “The Glacial Art team are huge Game of Thrones fans, and we were delighted to be approached by HBO. … It was one of the biggest honors and most difficult challenges of our professional careers. But for the greatest show on earth, we wanted to create nothing short of our most impressive ice sculpture to date.”
