Audience members – and fashion pundits – in Milan to cover the mens’ fashions for Fall 2012 were quite surprised to see Gary Oldman, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Tim Roth walking the runway with the rest of the pack — male models — in beautiful finely cut wool overcoats decorated by medallions and, in the case with Brody, a fur lapel.
The New York Times reported that Ms. Prada was creating an aura of bespoke formality, and used the actors “to complete the total illusion of individuality (and royalty).”

Interestly, her other male models had mustaches and more bulk than usual — most male models are only slightly bigger than their frail female counterparts. The Times also alluded to a sartorial connection to the British movies of the late fifties and sixties and their gritty realism. Clearly, she’s paying tribute to real men, not skinny boys, and to the glory days of mens’ clothing.
Meanwhile, we definitely expect Gary Oldman, nominated for a BAFTA Award for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, to attend in a handsome brand new Prada tux.
