Germany’s Gamescom, an annual trade fair for the video game industry held in Cologne, will kick off its 2019 convention with an opening night live stream produced by The Game Awards host and creator Geoff Keighley. Kimmie H. Kim, exec producer of The Game Awards, will produce alongside Keighley.
Gamescom: Opening Night Live, produced in English, will stream live from Cologne in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 fans to viewers worldwide Monday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. PT. The show will feature announcements from major game publishers and independent developers, as well as world premieres of new game footage and appearances from well-known video game industry stars.
“Gaming is a shared passion around the world, and every time I attend Gamescom I am energized by the passion and excitement from the community in Cologne,” says Keighley. “The team and I are thrilled to be in Europe this summer to produce this show and share Gamescom with the global video game audience.”
“Opening Night Live is an entirely new show designed to make gamers worldwide a bigger part of the Gamescom experience,” says Felix Falk, managing director of games at the German Games Industry Association. “With his experience as host and producer of The Game Awards and his strong international network, we couldn’t think of a better partner than Geoff to help us bring this show to life.”
Gamescom is the biggest gaming convention in the world. Last year’s event welcomed 370,000 visitors and 1,037 exhibitors. The 2019 Gamescom will run Aug. 20-24 at Cologne’s Koelnmesse.
