London Has Fallen, the sequel to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen, is moving to a 2016 release date.
The action thriller had been set to open on Oct. 2, where it faced competition from new releases like Fox’s The Martian and Sony’s The Walk. Gramercy Pictures, Focus Features’ genre label, announced Friday that it is shifting London’s opening to Jan. 22, 2016.
The new film once again stars Gerard Butler as former Special Forces soldier Mike Banning, who this time out must thwart a plot to assassinate world leaders gathering for the Prime Minister’s funeral in London. Babak Najafi directed the film, which also stars Morgan Freeman.
Released by FilmDistrict in 2013, Olympus Has Fallen grossed $161 million worldwide.
