Get Out won big at the Capri, Hollywood International Film Festival, taking home the top prize for best picture, it was announced Tuesday. The contemporary thriller, written and directed by Jordan Peele, is a likely Oscar contender in multiple categories.
Christopher Nolan was honored with the best director award for Dunkirk.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri took home three prizes, including best actress for Frances McDormand, best supporting actor for Sam Rockwell and best original screenplay for Martin McDonagh.
Darkest Hour also earned three honors: best film editing for Valerio Bonelli, best original score for Dario Marianelli and best makeup and hairstyling for Kazuhiro Tsuji.
James Franco was named best actor for his incredible transformation into Tommy Wiseau for The Disaster Artist. The film also picked up the best adapted screenplay award for Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber, Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell, sharing the honor with James Ivory and Luca Guadagnino for Call Me by Your Name.
Pixar’s Coco was tapped as best animated film and also received best original song honors for “Remember Me” by Michael Giacchino, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Among other honors, Melissa Leo was named best supporting actress for Novitiate; the best foreign film prize went to Foxtrot from Samuel Maoz; Hostiles won for best cinematography; Blade Runner 2049 nabbed the best production design award; best visual effects went to War for the Planet of the Apes; and the best ensemble cast prize went to The Leisure Seeker.
Additionally, James Ivory was presented with a career achievement award, Jonas Carpignano won the Rising Star Award for his film A Ciambra and Trudie Styler received the Person of the Year Award.
The Capri, Hollywood Film Fest is considered the last major event of the year for films campaigning for the Academy Awards. Each year, numerous attendees and honorees go on to win Oscar gold.
The next big event, the L.A., Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest, is set to take place the week before the Oscars, running Feb. 25-March 2.
