GetGlue has partnered with DirecTV to make checking in to the social media network easier via on-screen controls and additional integration for the iPhone and iPad. This is the first time GetGlue has been integrated into a major pay TV system.
“We are excited to announce our first partnership with a TV service provider,” says GetGlue founder and CEO Alex Iskold. “DirecTV is a leader in social TV, and with today’s integration, we’re making it that much easier for viewers to share the entertainment content they love with each other.”
DirecTV’s U.S. subscribers will be able to check into a show on GetGlue with their remote control. Additionally, they’ll be able to see their friends’ GetGlue streams on their TV screen and easily change channels to the shows their friends are commenting on.
Also, GetGlue’s iPhone app will be able to work with DirecTV subscribers set-top boxes, allowing it to detect what you’re watching and make it easier to check in. Additionally, iPad users can use the DirecTV app to check in to GetGlue.
“Our customers are passionate about their TV programming, and always looking for new ways to engage with DirecTV content,” says DirecTV’s EVP and CTO Romulo Pontual. “Our integration with GetGlue provides our customers with the perfect platform to connect with one another.”
