Chris Evans is trying his best to raise a promising child in the trailer for Gifted.
The Fox Searchlight title stars Evans as Frank Adler, a single man in a Florida coastal town who is raising a child prodigy — his spirited seven-year-old niece, Mary (Mckenna Grace). His plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when her mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.
“I’m raising her how I believe Diane would’ve wanted,” stresses Evans of his late sister. “You’re gonna loan her out to some think tank where she can talk non-trivial zeroes with a bunch of old Russian guys for the rest of her life.”
Directed by Marc Webb, the film also stars Octavia Spencer as a family friend and Jenny Slate as Mary’s caring teacher. Tom Flynn penned the script, and Karen Lunder and Andy Cohen are producing.
Gifted hits theaters April 12, 2017.
