It’s kind of a no brainer that the Swedish-based retail company H&M would release a collection inspired by the lived-in Goth Punk style of Lisbeth Salander, the hacker heroine from Stieg Larsson’s international best seller, The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo.
It’s really just a question of ‘What took so long?’ The 2009 Swedish version — starring Noomi Rapace — was a global hit and David Fincher‘s updated version — starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig — opens on Dec. 21. Ah. We get it. Timing.

“Salander’s look is very real and very lived in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time,” said Trish Summerville, costume designer on Fincher’s update. “I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result! My goal is for women to find pieces in it that they love and then mix them with their own wardrobe to create their own personal style.”

The collection isn’t available at all 175 H&M stores until December 14 (a week before the film is released in the U.S.). But Paris-based fans (or those with some extra frequent flier miles) are in luck. The line will first be sold at the high-priced edgy Paris boutique Colette on Nov. 28. An inexpensive H&M line at Colette? Sacre bleu.
The big question is would the real Salander shop at H&M? We kinda doubt it. We think she’s more likely to steal the clothes from the well-off fashionistas who can afford to shop at Colette. Watch this video to see more clothes from the new H&M collection.
