Rooney Mara has been cornering the market on slashed, sliced and edgy red carpet gowns. At the Jan. 5 Berlin premiere of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, she wore another flesh-baring, asymetrical hemmed gown, this time from U.S. designer Michael Kors accessorized with heels by Nicholas Kirkwood.

She took a break from her now trademark punky Lisbeth Salander clothing style with an elegant nude halter neck gown (shown here) from the California-based designing Rodarte sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
Rooney’s previously worn a slashed edgy Givenchy couture gown, and two slashed outfits by London designer Roksanda Ilincic. Her stylist, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is responsible for her punkified red carpet looks.
When he or she does surface, they are sure to be the subject of intense fashion press scrutiny. We can’t help but wonder if the person responsible for Rooney’s red carpet rags is none other than the film’s costume designer Trish Summerville, who also designed the Dragon Tattoo clothing line for H&M.
Rooney’s rise to fame has also been shockingly sudden. She appeared in Urban Legends and the Nightmare On Elm Street remake before landing the pivotal but small role of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s girlfriend in David Fincher’s 2010 Oscar-winning The Social Network.
The competition was pretty tough: Scarlett Johansson’s audition was amazing. Ellen Page filmed her own screen test. Carey Mulligan was obsessed with landing the role.
But after turning up (she says) hungover for her screen test, Rooney transformed herself into Salander, her long hair promptly chopped off and dyed black, her eyebrows bleached, and, most notably, various parts of her body pierced.
Before her sky-rocket to stardom, Rooney’s main money-earning gig was baby-sitting.
“I was like a baby sitter my whole life. I don’t know how much I got paid. Probably much more than is necessary to watch a child, probably like $8 an hour,” Mara recently revealed. And she babysat for the same family for over 5 five years.
Well, baby, look at her now.
And keep an eye on her at the Golden Globes on Jan 15. She’s nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama and is dauntingly up against Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis, (The Help), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), and Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin).
