Giuliana Rancic is staying put at E!
The managing editor and anchor of E! News has inked a new three-year deal with the NBCUniversal cable network. As part of the pact, Rancic will not only remain with the younger-skewing entertainment news program through April 2015 but also with Fashion Police and the network’s Live From the Red Carpet events. In addition, E! will get first-look rights to Rancic’s ideas for series, specials or other projects.
“Our viewers feel a special connection to Giuliana since in many ways she’s grown up on our air over the past decade,” said E! president Suzanne Kolb. “Giuliana’s on-air charm, charismatic personality and outstanding professionalism have made her one of TV’s most recognized hosts, and her work has helped propel E! News to new heights.”
Said Rancic: “It’s been an amazing ride, and I’m excited for my journey at E! to continue. I’m extremely proud of the tremendous opportunities E! has given me over the past 10 years, and I’m excited to be part of the network’s exciting future. The best is yet to come.”
The news comes after a tumultuous year for Rancic, who announced on NBC’s Today in October that she had been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. Six months later, she returned to the morning show with far brighter news: She and her Apprentice-winner husband Bill Rancic are expecting a baby via surrogate. The pair’s struggles to get pregnant have been well documented on their popular docuseries, Giuliana and Bill, which is delivering its highest ratings in current its fifth season for cable sibling Style. (The new deal does not include her services on the latter.)
Given her accomplishments onscreen and off, Rancic — who recently opened an Italian restaurant in Chicago with her husband — has proved to be a valuable piece of E!’s strategy to become more aspirational. Since joining the newly rebranded network as an E! News correspondent in 2002, her on-air presence has grown steadily. Fashion Police, which she co-hosts alongside Joan Rivers, Kelly Osborne and stylist George Kotsiopoulos, was expanded to a full hour this year, and her red carpet events are coming off its most-watched quarter in the network’s history. Last month, E! gave her the ultimate star treatment by rolling out an edition of True Hollywood Story with Rancic as the subject.
