Joining the network’s Live From the Red Carpet: The 2020 Emmy Awards via video stream, Rancic explained that her diagnosis has forced her to miss hosting Sunday’s red carpet coverage.
“As I go into my 20th year on the E! red carpet I have to say I do not take missing an award show lightly, but unfortunately this year is just so different,” she said. She went on to say that because of “E! and NBCUniversal’s very strict testing guidelines,” she learned she tested positive for COVID-19.
“Now as much as I didn’t want to hear that, I’m very thankful I heard it before I traveled and possibly could have exposed other people,” she said.
Rancic also revealed that her husband Bill and son Duke also tested positive, but they’re “all doing well and taking care of each other.
“I just want to say that I’m wishing you all the best and please protect yourself and protect those around you. Take good care and I’ll see you on the next red carpet.”
Later on in the preshow, it was revealed that Fox was also forced to miss the preshow after testing positive for COVID- 19. “During these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever that we follow all safety and health rules and guidelines to protect ourselves and each other,” Fox said in a statement read during the preshow
Prior to their diagnosis, Rancic and Fox were expected to headline the network’s preshow. E! style correspondent Brad Goreski, E! News’ The Rundown host Erin Lim, Laverne Cox and Nightly Pop co-host Nina Parker hosted in their stead.
The 72nd Emmy Awards is airing live Sunday on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel hosting.
