Leave it to America to dedicate not one, but three different “holidays” to shopping, each with their own fancy moniker. First comes Black Friday, then Cyber Monday and now Giving Tuesday has become the official designation for the Tuesday following the post-turkey day madness.
But unlike other creatively named weekday holidays, Giving Tuesday wants you to empty your wallet (or what’s left of it) for a good cause — or any cause, for that matter, that gives back to the world.

Though it’s been around for four years now, having gotten its start at the 92nd Street Y in partnership with the UN, #GivingTuesday’s awareness has peaked in 2015. Plenty of fashion retailers and celebrities alike have joined the movement, donating profits to good causes and promoting charities that are near and dear to their hearts.
Here, 8 notable #GivingTuesday calls to action.
1. Prabal Gurung: The designer urged his followers to donate to his the Shikshya Foundation, which benefits those effected by the 2015 earthquake in his native home of Nepal.

2. Rebecca Minkoff: Proceeds from the designer’s Empowered By You x Rebecca Minkoff underwear ($65) supports microfinance loans for women in poverty via the Seven Bar Foundation.

3. Kendall Jenner: The model/sexy shark encouraged her 13.7 million Twitter followers to donate to the Red Cross.

4. Cole Haan: The retailer asked customers to donate to 826 National, a charity they partnered with to help provide academic tutoring to under-resourced children in the U.S.

5. Old Navy: The brand is donating 1-percent of every purchase made in store using an Old Navy card to the Boys & Girls Club of America, up to $75,000. Additionally, the company is sponsoring an #UNSelfie promotion, in which Instagram users who snap a photo and tag @oldnavy will prompt a dollar donation to the group.

6. eBay: The site is releasing a limited edition Pamela Love for eBay collection, with all proceeds from the under $75 rose gold line going to the CFDA’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer charity.

7. JC Penney: The department store pledged to donate $100,000 to 12 different Boys & Girls Clubs in cities across America in honor of the holiday. The company also enlisted local celebrities including Dwight Howard and Joe Jonas to hold meet-and-greets with kids from the clubs at various store locations.

8. Elie Tahari: Last week, the designer began its Coats for a Cause campaign, which donates 10-percent of sales to the Worldwide Orphan Foundation and raises awareness for the cause.
