AP Photo/Matt SaylesGlenn Close will play the title role in The Wife, the adaptation of the Meg Wolitzer novel that will be directed by Swedish director Bjorn Runge.
Rosalie Swedlin of Anonymous Content, Meta Louise Foldager of Meta Film Stockholm and Swedish producers Maria Dahlin and Gila Ulfung are producing the movie, which will shoot primarily in Stockholm in both English and Swedish languages. A winter/spring 2015 shoot is being planned, with casting of the male lead now beginning.
The project has been in the works for over a decade, and was initially set up at Fine Line Features for Jane Anderson (Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio) to direct. Anderson is still as involved as the screenwriter.

The story is set in the literary world as a faithful wife of a famous and philandering New York novelist decides to leave her husband on the eve of his receiving a major book award in Stockholm. That uncoupling prompts a re-examination of the relationship as secrets are revealed.
Runge is a 20-plus year veteran of the Swedish film, TV and theater scene. His 2003 film Daybreak won two Swedish Academy Awards (Guldbagge) and shared a Silver Bear in Berlin with Der Blaue Engel for best European film. And earlier this year he directed a production of Death of a Salesman for Göteborg City Theatre.

Anderson is best known for her plays and screenwriting work. She wrote The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom, worked as a consulting producer on Mad Men and adapted the best-selling novel Olive Kitteridge as a four part mini-series for HBO starring Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins and Bill Murray. It will premiere in September.
Close, who has been nominated for an Oscar six times (and never won, if you can believe it) has four films in the can, ranging from a Marvel Studios tentpole (Guardians of the Galaxy) to an indie drama (Anesthesia, which also stars Kristen Stewart and Gretchen Mol).
