LONDON – Glenn Mulcaire, the investigator at the heart of the phone-hacking allegations at the now-shuttered News of The World, has become the 18th person to be arrested in the criminal investigation into activities at the newspaper.

London’s Metropolitan Police said Tuesday that a 41-year old man had been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept voicemail messages.
Mulcaire was jailed in 2007 after being found of intercepting phone messages of members of the Royal Family. A treasure trove of his notebooks was discovered in police possession some years later, detailing thousands of private mobile numbers thought to be connected to phone-hacking.

Earlier this year former News International CEO Rebekah Brooks and former News of the World editor Andy Coulson were also arrested and bailed as part of Operation Weeting, one of three separate investigations into illegal activities at the News Corp.-owned newspaper.
