NEW YORK — Look out, Broadway, the rhythm is gonna get you.
Seven-time Grammy-winning Latin pop sensation Gloria Estefan and her husband, musician-producer-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, have teamed with theater owner and producing entity the Nederlander Organization to develop and produce a new musical to tell their story.
The untitled show will follow their journey from Cuba to Miami and super-stardom, as they generate a string of smash albums and international hit songs, including “Conga,” “1-2-3,” “Music of My Heart” and “Rhythm is Gonna Get You.”

With an estimated 100 million albums sold worldwide, Gloria Estefan is among the most successful crossover artists in Latin music. In addition to working with his wife, Emilio Estefan has played a part in shaping the music careers of Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. His work has yielded more than 30 Grammy nominations and 19 wins.
Along with business interests spanning music, film, television, hotels and restaurants, the Cuban-born couple also owns a stake in NFL franchise The Miami Dolphins.
“I am thrilled to collaborate with Gloria and Emilio to see their amazing story come to fruition on the Broadway stage,” said Nederlander president Jimmy Nederlander. “The Estefans’ journey of success, led by raw talent and passion, is captivating as it drove them from relative obscurity to global sensations.”
“We are very excited to share this story, which is based on hope, determination and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become reality,” said Gloria and Emilio Estefan in a statement. They added that their goal for the show is “to give us a new opportunity to honor our roots and, hopefully, to be able to inspire generations to come.”
The Estefans’ longtime business associate Bernie Yuman will serve as executive producer on the project, which reportedly has been in the planning stage for more than a decade. No timeline has been set for the show, with additional creative team to be announced later in its development.
