The upcoming anniversary cut of Godfather: Part III gives the classic mob picture a “new life,” says Francis Ford Coppola. The writer-director makes the comments in a new mini introduction that accompanies the Blu-ray release of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.
Coppola changed the end of the beginning of the film and reordered a number of scenes to deliver the movie that he and the late Puzo originally envisioned for the 1990 Oscar-nominated picture.
“In musical terms, a coda is sort of like an epilogue. It’s a summing up, and that is what we intended the movie to be,” Coppola says in the intro.
Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone will get a limited released theatrical Dec. 4 and arrive on Blu-ray and digital on Dec. 8.
