New Girl’s Liz Meriwether is hoping to celebrate her freshman series’ Golden Globe attention with a nap.

The 30-year-old creator and showrunner of Fox’s hit comedy had been up all night working on a New Girl script when a 20th TV publicist emailed her with the news: her Fox show has been nominated for Golden Globes in both the best comedy and best actress (Zooey Deschanel) categories. Still more impressive: it’s the only new broadcast show to be recognized in a series category.
“It’s just so exciting to be recognized for something that you love so much,” says Meriwether, a mixture of pride, exhaustion and excitement on display.
“It just feels like a great hug,” she continues, noting how she can only hope all of the attention will translate to more viewers for the show.

As for Meriwether’s plans to celebrate: “With a table read and notes afterward,” she sighs, before adding: “I think I’ll find a way to put some champagne in the coffee.”
