From the time Ricky Gervais walked out onstage to a glass full of beer waiting for him on the podium, it was clear that drinking would again figure prominently into the Golden Globes telecast. Mixing alcohol (or more specifically, Moet champagne, flowing freely inside the Beverly Hilton) and awards seems to be what sets the HFPA’s show apart from other televised awards shows, so why not ask guests a valuable question on the red carpet: How many drinks is too many at the Golden Globes?
Spotlight producer Michael Sugar jokeed, “Depends on if you win or lose.”
The Peanuts Movie director Steve Martino explained that “three is my max.”
Jason Schwartzman joked that he’s “seen grown men weeping after very little,” so it’s different for everyone. “If someone goes and says something that they are going to later regret that might hurt someone’s feelings, that’s too much. But there’s only one way to find out for those people — you have to cross the line to know where it is.”
