Amy Adams won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.
Adams was nominated along with Julianne Moore (Maps To the Stars), Emily Blunt (Into the Woods), Helen Mirren (The Hundred-Foot Journey) and Quvenzhane Wallis (Annie).
Adams accepted the golden statuette from Ricky Gervais. She was incredibly surprised, as she earlier told reporters on the red carpet that she didn’t think she was going to win.
In Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, Adams portrays real-life artist Margaret Keane, who was forced to hide in the shadows while her husband, Walter Keane, took credit for her portraits of children with oversize eyes. She expressed onstage how grateful she feels not to receive the same treatment from her fiance, Darren Le Gallo, in real life.
“I’m lucky because I get to stand here tonight with a man who stands here beside me who would never silence my voice, so thank you, Darren,” said Adams.
Adams also expressed her admiration for how her fellow female actresses joining her in the room serve as role models for her young daughter.
“It’s just so wonderful that women today have such a strong voice,” said Adams. “I’m so grateful to have all the women in this room who have such a lovely, beautiful voice and are speaking to my daughter.”

Last year Adams won a Golden Globe in the same category for her role in American Hustle. She is the first back-to-back winner since Kathleen Turner earned consecutive wins for her roles in Romancing the Stone in 1984 and Prizzi’s Honor in 1985.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton on Sunday in Beverly Hills.
