No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die — with proximity mines in the Facility stage.
The legendary N64 game GoldenEye turned 20 on Friday and fans likely began jonesing for a round with their pals when they saw the news.
The iconic shooter revolutionized first-person gaming and led the way for multiple-player combat. In August 1997, friends quickly learned being Oddjob was cheating and being Jaws was just plain dumb.
It seems like everyone had that one friend, who, for whatever reason, was like a surgeon with the throwing knives. And of course, almost everyone blew themselves up with their own proximity mines.
Ironically, the one person who really sucked at the game was none other than 007 himself: Pierce Brosnan.
Of course, it makes sense. There is no reason to think he would be good at the game just because he played the character, but when he tried it out for seemingly the first time a few years back on The Tonight Show, it was hilarious — and kinda sad.
Jimmy Fallon challenged Brosnan — who played Bond for the first time in 1995’s GoldenEye and then three more times — to a round of the N64 game. Needless to say, Fallon won and Brosnan had a hell of a time. But he looked dapper doing it, naturally.
In another fun twist, Friday also marked the 87th birthday of Sean Connery, the first and predominantly fan-favorite 007.
