Chance the Rapper was named best new artist Sunday night at the 59th annual Grammy Awards.
The musician won the award, which was presented by Jennifer Lopez, over fellow artists Kelsea Ballerini, The Chainsmokers, Maren Morris and Anderson .Paak.
“I know that people think ‘independence’ means that you do it by yourself, but independence means freedom, and I do it with these folks right here,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Earlier in the day, Chance also took home a Grammy for best rap performance for “No Problem,” featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.
The 59th annual Grammy Awards, hosted by James Corden, aired live from L.A.’s Staples Center on CBS. See all the winners here.
