New Yves Saint Laurent designer Hedi Slimane has begun his revamping of the official website. When you go to ysl.com now, you will see only a video of animal prints – on a sheet perhaps, that are slowly zoomed in on as different shapes emerge and slowly disappear. A female singer sings a mournful ‘60s –style song strumming a guitar, with synthetic plaintive echoes in the background.
It’s a fitting song considering that Slimane has changed the name of the collection and stores to Saint Laurent to symbolize the youth, freedom and social changes reflected in Saint Laurent Rive Gauche ready-to-wear whenbit launched in 1966.
The singer sounds like Marianne Faithful from that pre-raspy era. But it’s actuall a singer named Liza Thorn, who plays in the emerging duo Starred, and appears in photos on Slimane’s rock diary on his website. The photos were shot by Slimane for V magazine. And if Thorn doesn’t look like she could be a Rolling Stone’s girlfriend circa ’68, no one does. Check out her Tumbler and her animal print coat.
Her new album with Matthew Zoshak is called A Season in Hell, taken from the book by Arthur Rimbaud. And you can hear a song off that album here.
The new ysl.com site will be live on Tuesday. It will be an e-commerce site but only for new designs from Slimane. Shoppers can preorder Cruise and Spring 2013, including rtw and some accessories.
Slimane has already designed a created a graphic new boutique that opened in Shanghai.
For now, his Paris show décor is hush-hush. But our Paris spies have reported that the show invites are printed oon the same animal print design seen on the website, inside black booklets.
