Carolyn Murphy first hit the supermodel scene in the early 1990s at age 15, and has since walked runways from Gucci to Prada and every show in between. She was the face of Estee Lauder for 13 years, and recently not only became a design director at Detroit-based Shinola, but also launched a lingerie line, Cheek Frills x Carolyn Murphy. To top it all off, she’s the new face of both Oscar de la Renta and UGG. A true renaissance woman, indeed.
Pret-a-Reporter sat down with the 41-year-old blond beauty to chat modeling, fashion and, of course, shoes.
Pret-a-Reporter: What are your favorite pair of shoes of all time?
Carolyn Murphy: My favorite pair of shoes are my slingback Manolo [Blahnik] heels. I’ve had the same black pair since 1996 and have done everything in my power to salvage them — so much that my cobbler laughs.
Favorite pair of UGG boots?
My favorite pair of UGG boots, besides the ones my uncle gave me when I was about 10 years old, are the new Abree Short Boot ($250) from the Classic Luxe line. They are more fashion forward in the shape and great for everyday casual looks, and the most comfortable!
Favorite pair of shoes you wore for the Oscar de la Renta campaign?
All of the shoes on the Oscar set were incredible, so feminine and delicate.
What type of shoes do you like to see on the opposite sex?
On men I like to see simple Converse or suede lace-up boots — so sexy.

Favorite pair of shoes you have worn on the runway?
My favorite shoes were the kitten slingback heels from Prada in 1997. They were perfect with skirts and pants. There was a chocolate brown that I adored. Miuccia also did a burgundy Mary Jane heel around that time that had a gorgeous leather rose petal on the toe that was so sweet.
