Magnet Releasing said on Friday that it has acquired worldwide rights to The Eyes of My Mother.
The debut feature from Nicolas Pesce had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and follows the story of Francisca as tragedy shatters her family’s idyllic life in the countryside and her deep childhood trauma gradually awakens.
Magnet, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, is planning a 2016 theatrical release.
Kika Magalhaes stars in the black-and-white horror film, which was produced by Jacob Wasserman, Schuyler Weiss, and Max Born and executive produced by Antonio Campos, Sean Durkin and Josh Mond under their new Borderline Presents label.
“Nicolas Pesce has crafted an auspicious and unforgettable debut that immediately establishes him as one of the most exciting genre filmmakers to watch today,” said Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles. “This is the kind of film Magnet was started for.”
The deal was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. All international rights for the film are still available.
