The Quick Pitch: Thomas Keller protege Bryan Podgorski, who previously worked at the French Laundry and the Bouchon outpost in Las Vegas, is in charge of the kitchen at this Italian-oriented Westwood dining room, which is canopied by sculptural intertwined vines. The produce-flaunting menu includes a slew of handmade pastas and entrees like a wild white seabass panzanella with Tokyo turnips. But the approach is perhaps most acutely in evidence on Adam Seger’s super-seasonal drinks menu, where even hoary cliches (a tequila sunrise, anyone?) are made respectable with primo, not-easily-sourced farmers’ market ingredients. Case in point: the nonalcoholic strawberry lemonade, comprised of Harry’s Berries strawberries, Melissa’s rhubarb and Single Estate Highlands agave.
The Insider’s Dish: Tanzy is the ambitious effort of its corporate backer: iPic Entertainment, the proprietor of iPic Theaters, an ArcLight-like upmarket cinema chain that last month opened its adjoining six-screen movie house in the refurbished old AMC Avco 4 space.
The Must-Order Item: A straightforward yet dexterously executed warm asparagus and prosciutto salad featuring a soft-poached hen egg.
The Industry Neighbor: Showtime Networks, whose office is a block to the west, finally has a serious option beyond Napa Valley Grille in this dining-deprived stretch of Westwood where office towers meld into Wilshire Boulevard’s residential high-rise condo corridor.
