During this year’s Billboard Music Awards, Celine Dion gave a powerful performance of her song, “My Heart Will Go On,” the hit song from Titanic and winner of both an Oscar and Golden Globe for best original song. During her performance, scenes from Titanic were played in the background in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary. Dion’s performance received rave reviews, proving that after 20 years, fans everywhere still have “never let go” of the moving song and historical blockbuster.
Titanic hit theaters Dec. 19, 1997, with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio gracing the big screen as two passengers on board the doomed ship, in a film that still stands as one of the biggest blockbusters of all time.
Winslet plays Rose DeWitt Bukater, a privileged member of the first class who feels trapped in the constraints set by her mother (Frances Fisher) and fiancé, Cal (Billy Zane). After crossing paths with third-class passenger Jack Dawson (Dicaprio), they unexpectedly fall in love, and Rose learns that there is more to life than the one originally planned for her.
The James Cameron-directed film made $2.2 billion worldwide at the box office and dominated the Academy Awards, with wins for both Winslet and Cameron. Kathy Bates, Billy Zane, Bill Paxton and Victor Garber also star in the movie.
