Howard Stern Apologizes to Lena Dunham, Says She’s Not ‘Just a Talentless Little Fat Chick’ (Audio)

Howard Stern has something to get off his chest — and, surprisingly, this time it’s an apology.

The outspoken radio personality on Monday apologized to Girls creator and star Lena Dunham for slamming her a week earlier on his Sirius XM show, when he called her “a little fat girl who looks like Jonah Hill.”

He also griped that she gets too much screen-time on the HBO series, which she also writes, directs and executive produces, and complained that she “keeps taking her clothes off, and it kinda feels like a rape. … I don’t want to see that.”

But on Monday, a day after Dunham won best actress in a comedy series and the show won best comedy series at the Golden Globes, Stern was singing a different tune.

“I felt bad, because I really do love the show Girls and enjoy it, and I admire the girl who writes it,” he said, calling coverage of his previous remarks a “hatchet job.”

He continued: “So anyway, I said to [producer Gary Dell’Abate], ‘Would you please contact Lena Dunham and tell her that I would like to explain myself on the air and apologize to her, because I do love the show, and it makes me feel bad that she is getting the impression that I somehow think she’s just a talentless little fat chick.'”

Dunham, who is active on Twitter, has not yet responded, but last week she appeared on Late Show With David Letterman and made light of Stern’s previous comments. She told Letterman that she’s a fan of Stern and that he’s “earned the right to free speech.”

“He said, ‘Congrats to her; it’s so hard for little fat chicks to get anything going,’ and it put me in the best mood,” Dunham said. “I just want my gravestone to say, ‘She was a little fat chick, and she got it going.’ “
