Lionsgate is pacting with Dubai Parks and Resorts to bring a Hunger Games-inspired attraction to a planned Dubai theme park to launch in October 2016.
Motiongate Dubai will feature attractions and retail outlets based on The Hunger Games franchise, and a live stage show created based on the the Step Up: All In and Step Up: Revolution films. The plans follow Lionsgate expanding into out-of-home entertainment and other new lines of business following the box-office success of The Hunger Games franchise.
The studio earlier tapped theme park creator Thinkwell Group to mount a touring exhibit, The Hunger Games: The Exhibition, to debut in the U.S. market in summer 2015.
“Lionsgate’s Hunger Games, Step Up and other signature properties are the perfect centerpiece for one of the most visionary new theme parks in the world,” Dubai Parks and Resorts CEO Raed Al Nuaimi said Tuesday in a statement.
The Motiongate Dubai theme park plans to allow visitors to experience popular movies through 27 hi-tech rides and attractions. That includes a Legoland Dubai theme park, and Bollywood Parks Dubai, an entertainment destination based on Bollywood movies.
“Motiongate Dubai is poised to become one of the most exciting new entertainment destinations in the world, and we’re thrilled that many of our biggest franchises will be an integral part of it,” said Lionsgate executive vp global franchise management and strategic partnerships Kerry Phelan and senior vp branded attractions Jenefer Brown in their own statement.
