DirecTV viewers will be able to get 24/7 coverage of Hurricane Irene whether they’re in the heart of the action, or soaking up the sun on the opposite coast.
STORY: Box Office Report: Hurricane Irene a $30 Mil Threat
The satellite service provider announced on Friday that it will launch a dedicated “Hurricane Irene Information” channel to provide live broadcasts from local markets affected by the storm to its viewers nationwide. The channel is set to begin broadcasting at midnight EST/ 9 p.m. PST Friday evening and will air on three separate viewer channels: 259, 325 and 349.

DirecTV will track the storm and manually switch to local stations in the affected market. They will also provide graphic updates on potential evacuation, closures and event cancellations, as well as storm preparation information from the American Red Cross.
Coverage will be broadcast from the following cities:
Greenville/New Bern, N.C.
New York
Norfolk, Va.
Richmond, Va.
Roanoke, Va.
Washington, D.C.
