Even as the East Coast braces for its worst storm in 75 years, people are keeping a sense of humor about Hurricane Sandy.
Many people hit Twitter on Sunday to crack jokes about the storm’s name, invoking Olivia Newton-John’s character in the 1978 musical Grease as well as the suit-wearing squirrel of the same name from Nickelodeon’s animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.

“Which newscast is going to be the first to use ‘Sandy’ from the GREASE soundtrack in their hurricane coverage?” quipped comedian Patton Oswalt.
Echoed Ana Gasteyer: “I predict the Weather Channel plays Sandy from Grease under one of its dynamic maps on Day 3.”
And author Salman Rushdie chimed in: “Who’d have thought the End of the World would be called Sandy? If this was a movie, would it be played by Olivia Newton-John?”
Meanwhile, musicians Nat and Alex Wolff joked: “Guys why is the squirrel from sponge bob having a hurricane tomorrow? Sincerely, someone who still watches spongebob ***Alex***”

Some people even posted various images of the hurricane with images of one of the two characters superimposed over it.
One rendering, for example, shows Newton-John’s face with the words “Hopelessly Devoted to Ruining Halloween.” Another has several different images of the actress in character, with the images growing bigger as they head up the Eastern seaboard (see above).
