Macrobiotic, famously skinny 64-year-old rocker Iggy Pop doesn't want food anywhere near his oeuvre. Sources close to Bug Music, which represents Pop's song catalog, have been carefully warned by the artist in writing that "no song of mine be attached to food of any kind."
Jason Merritt/Getty ImagesLONDON – BBC Radio 6 Music, a digital radio station operated by the U.K. public broadcaster, will offer some counter-programming this holiday season, announcing it will air an interview with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and two shows hosted by the “godfather of punk” Iggy Pop around Christmas and New Year’s.
The station said that Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash will also present a show, allowing it to “be truly rocking around the Christmas tree.”
Iggy Pop will turn radio DJ for his two programs – the first in the 1 p.m.-3 p.m. time slot on Christmas Day, the second one in the same slot on New Year’s Day.
“Iggy Pop’s Radio Show will offer 6 Music listeners an exclusive insight into the mind of one of the most influential rock stars of the last 40 years,” the BBC said. “In the first show, he’ll explore the theme of Rockin’ Rebels, and Heartbreak and Heartaches in the second.”
“To come up with the tunes that fit the concept of each show, I’ve had to dig back to things that I haven’t heard in a long, long time, but that still carry memories of joy and compulsion,” the music star said. “I thought I better check these old numbers to see if they still made the grade for me. They still do.”
BBC Radio 6 Music will on Christmas Day also air “The First Time With Lars Ulrich,” in which the Metallica star will discuss his childhood in Denmark, the early days of Metallica through to the arena gigs, his friendship with Noel Gallagher, as well as his music passions – from Ennio Morricone to the Arctic Monkeys.
Meanwhile, Jones and Simonon will host two-hour special “This Is Radio Clash” on Boxing Day to share with listeners some of their experiences.
