Justin Timberlake will receive the iHeartRadio Innovator Award at this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, it was announced Monday.
Timberlake is being honored for his “unparalleled position in the entertainment world,” and contributions to the music industry iHeartMedia said in Monday’s announcement. iHeartMedia says Timberlake is one of only a few musicians to “have transcended all artistic boundaries,” pointing to his music collaborations, acting and comedy work, “putting together one of the biggest albums in recent history” and “staging the biggest and most technically ambitious tour of the last two years.”
“Justin is one of the most dynamic artists of our lifetime, a visionary whose influence on pop culture starts with brilliant music and stretches well beyond,” iHeartMedia president of national programming platforms, Tom Poleman, said in a statement. “I’m amazed how he regularly breaks barriers that continue to shape and define music trends. We’re thrilled to recognize him among his peers — who also proudly call themselves his fans.”
John Sykes, president of entertainment enterprises for iHeartMedia added: “From day one, Justin has been a step ahead; in fact, he refuses to play it safe. And even given all his success to date, I think he is only at the beginning of one of the great careers in entertainment.”
Timberlake has won 25 awards for his latest album, The 20/20 Experience, including three Grammys. He also swept the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, taking home seven trophies. The album was 2013’s best-selling album worldwide. He’s won four Emmys and hosted Saturday Night Live five times.
iHeart Radio Music Awards producer Done + Dusted’s president Ian Stewart said: “Justin is the world’s undisputed 360-degree entertainer. Put simply, he’s ‘The Man.’ We are delighted to give him the honor he deserves.”
The iHeartRadio Music Awards will include performances by Rihanna, Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith, Madonna, Jason Aldean, Jamie Foxx, Meghan Trainor, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Snoop Dogg, Charlie Wilson, Nate Ruess, Alesso and Florida Georgia Line.
Taylor Swift, Ludacris, Steven Yun, Ryan Seacrest, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez and Jeremy Piven are all confirmed to present or participate.
The show will honor the year’s most popular artists and songs as determined by the iHeartRadio Chart and fan voting through iHeartRadio stations nationwide. Social voting in the categories of best lyrics, best fan army and renegade will continue through Friday.
The iHeartRadio Music Awards, hosted by Jamie Foxx, is set to air live from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium on NBC Sunday, March 29 at 8 p.m. The show will broadcast simultaneously on iHeartMedia stations nationwide and across the iHeartRadio digital music platform.
