Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending thriller Inception was a big winner at the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards, taking home two awards for best sound editing in the categories of sound effects & foley and music in a feature film.
Also Sunday at the Westin Bonaventure, The Social Network won a trophy for best sound editing in the category for dialogue and ADR in a feature film.
How To Train Your Dragon claimed the award for best sound editing in an animated feature, Country Strong earned an award for best sound editing of music in a musical, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage topped the best sound editing category for feature documentaries, and Micmacs was honored for best sound editing in the foreign language category.

Inception was the only sound editing Oscar nominee to win at the Golden Reels Awards. Also nominated for an Oscar in sound editing are Toy Story 3, Tron: Legacy, True Grit and Unstoppable.
In television, The Pacific earned two trophies. Boardwalk Empire, Glee, The Tudors and The Walking Dead were among the TV honorees that won one award each.
Walter Murch received the MPSE award for Career Achievement, which was presented by George Lucas.
Lucas received applause as, in presenting to Murch, he said: “Sound is half of the experience of a motion picture … the sound editor should start working the same day the editor starts working.”
Accepting the award, Murch suggested that cinema is at its most effective when there are contradictory elements, “the general and the personal and the exploitative and the explorative.” This could “speak to each member of the audience in a uniquely flexible, powerful and personal way.”
Brian Grazer was honored with the MPSE Filmmaker Award. He accepted via a video message.
The Golden Reel Awards recognize various areas of sound editing for dialogue & ADR, effects & foley and music.
