It’s quite possible that Nick Viall, runner-up on — count ’em — two seasons of The Bachelorette, might be the most polarizing contestant in ABC’s 21-season history of The Bachelor. When it was revealed that the 36-year-old Wisconsin native was this year’s suitor, loyal Bachelor/Bachelorette fans on the internet split into two equally divided camps: Team Nick and Team Literally-Anyone-Else-Would-Have-Been-Better.
On Monday’s episode, audiences (surprisingly) agreed about a few show moments — for example, his post-puke make-out session with Vanessa (totally gross) and Corinne’s behavior (she’s nutty, but her napping skills are impressive) — but it was the man of the hour’s floral Suited Man tie ($45) that managed to cause a monumental riff among Bachelor Nation.
Some (and by some, I mean I) might argue that Nick is the best-dressed Bachelor the franchise has ever seen, wearing bold accessories with his patterned suits that are tailored perfectly to reveal his toned runner’s body and long limbs. From episode one, in which he wore a custom polka-dot tie by Chicago-based made-to-measure studio Daniel George — a throwback to the tie he donned while meeting Bachelorette Andi Dorfman during his very first appearance in the franchise — Nick has been keeping us on our toes with his fashion choices. “What I love about Nick and his taste is that he doesn’t care if it’s $300 or $45,” said Bachelor stylist Cary Fetman.
But while the microfloral accessory was a winner to some, it was an ode to the ‘80s (in a bad way) to others, and you can bet that Twitter was reeling with commentary.
Read the tweets below to see the best of both sides.

Definitely NOT watching @BachelorABC. But if I was, I’d remark on how ugly Nick’s tie is. But I’m not. #Bachelor #Denial

Nick’s tie was apparently made from scraps of an old bachelor mansion couch. #thebachelor #atleastherecycles
