The latest feature film by French writer-director duo Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, Intouchables (Untouchable), will have its world premiere when it closes the 59th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival in September, fest organizers announced Thursday.
Starring Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy, the comedy recounts the unexpected friendship between a millionaire left crippled in an accident and his caregiver, an immigrant and ex-convict from the Paris suburbs.
Cluzet is currently one of France’s biggest stars and was last seen in Guillaume Canet’s comedy hit Les Petits Mouchirs (Little White Lies) released in 2010. He has also worked with Claude Chabrol and Bernard Tavernier.
Gaumont has world rights to Intouchables, while U.S. rights have been picked up by The Weinstein Company.
Toledano and Nakache made their mark with their short film Les Petits Souliers in 1999 when it won the Audience Award at the Paris Film Festival and they have since helmed the features Je Préfère Qu’on Reste Amis, Nos Jours Heureux and Tellement Proches.
Intouchables will be screened out of competition following the festival’s closing gala on Sept. 24 in the northern Spanish seaside resort city of San Sebastian. It opens Sept. 16.
