Ask any starlet in town: Scoring a series regular role on a hit TV show is a lot like winning the lottery. And the good news is the riches that arrive with TV stardom come complete with a much-deserved summer break.
So when we snagged some face time with Scorpion star Katharine McPhee on Tuesday night inside Giuseppe Zanotti‘s well-heeled bash to toast his newly expanded digs on ever-chic Brighton Way in Beverly Hills, we just had to find out how the fresh-faced star is spending her hiatus from the CBS show. (Luckily, our chat came before Beyonce showed up, affecting our concentration.)
Her answer? More work and some beach time.
“I am putting out a new single in a couple weeks,” teased McPhee, who just wrapped a Diane Martel-directed music video to support the song titled “Lick My Lips.” The track was written by Florence and the Machine member Isabella Summers (aka Isa Machine) for McPhee’s upcoming — and still untitled — new album (release date TBD). “The song is very tongue-in-cheeky and samples a Luther Vandross song. It’s a fun summer song, and I’m excited about the body of work as far as the album goes because this record is something I’m very connected to — like a diary of what I’ve been through.”
She’s also about to go through some serious relaxation.
“I’m also going to Thailand to sing with [Andrea] Bocelli for a show and then I’m going to travel for a week in Thailand and lay on the beach somewhere,” smiled McPhee, in Zanotti shoes, an Elle Sasson dress and Marina B jewelry with an Emm Kuo clutch. And while she didn’t mention if she’s traveling with anyone, we assume her beach bud will be her boyfriend, the handsome Elyes Gabel.
Equally good-looking were the rows and rows and rows of Zanotti shoes inside the Italian designer’s new digs. Even McPhee had her eyes on a few pairs, especially the sandals. “I’m a legitimate fan of Zanotti,” she explained. “He does, to me, the most beautiful sandals with beading and hardware and gold.”
Sandals seem perfect for her summer vacay, but McPhee admits (gasp!) that she’s trying not to spend all her hard-earned cash on shoes and clothes. “I’m trying to splurge on travel because I feel like I don’t need more things and it should be more about the experience for me and going to nice places with friends and family.” And cute boyfriends.
