Jack White Announces Solo Debut ‘Blunderbuss,’ Premieres First Track “Love Interruption”

White Stripes frontman Jack White announced the release of his first solo album, Blunderbuss, which is due April 24, 2012 on Third Man/ Columbia Records. White also premiered the first track from the forthcoming LP, entitled “Love Interruption,” on his website, JackWhiteIII.com.

The release of Blunderbuss is White’s first solo release since the breakup of The White Stripes, which was announced almost exactly one year ago, on February 2, 2011. Since 2005, White has supplemented his work on The White Stripes with a series of production efforts and collaborations. After forming The Raconteurs with Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler, he formed The Dead Weather with The Kills frontwoman Alison Mosshart. Simultaneously, he worked with Alicia Keys on the theme song to the 22^nd James Bond film, A Quantum of Solace, and contributed vocals to superproducer Danger Mouse’s 2011 Rome project.

30 minutes after the musician announced the release of Blunderbuss, he offered a free stream of “Love Interruption” on his website, indicating that the track will be available for purchase at 9 pm PST/ 12 am EST. A vinyl version of “Love Interruption” will also be released February 7 with an exclusive, non-LP b-side entitled “Machine Gun Silhouette,” and that 7” record is available for pre-order on White’s website as well as at ThirdManRecords.com.

In the press brief announcing the release of Blunderbuss, White said of the forthcoming release, “it’s an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”
