COLOGNE, Germany – Silver Linings Playbook actress Jacki Weaver has joined the cast of The Voices, a psychological thriller from Persepolis director Marjane Satrapi that has just begun shooting at Studio Babelsberg outside Berlin.
Weaver, the two-time Oscar nominee who recently joined the cast of the CBS comedy pilot The McCarthys and has a supporting role in Peter Landesman‘s upcoming JFK drama Parkland starring Zac Efron and Paul Giamatti, joins a high-caliber cast on The Voices, which includes Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick.
In the feature, from a script by Paranormal Activity‘s Michael R. Perry, Reynolds plays Jerry, an ordinary bathtub factory worker whose relationship with a woman from accounting takes a sudden, deadly turn. Hearing voices from his good dog and evil cat, Jerry begins a fantastic journey toward salvation. British actress Ella Smith (The Womb) also will play a supporting role in the film.
Weaver is repped by ICM Partners and Elevate Entertainment. Reynolds, Arterton and Kendrick are repped by CAA.
Mandalay Vision, Vertigo Entertainment and 1984 Private Defense Contractors are producing The Voices with Germany’s Studio Babelsberg. Babelsberg’s Charlie Woebcken, Christoph Fisser and Henning Molfenter will receive co-production credits on The Voices. Satrapi also shot her previous film, Chicken With Plumbs, at the German studio.
Babelsberg is booked solid at the moment. The Voices is the fourth international production shooting at the German studio, alongside Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel, George Clooney‘s WWII drama The Monuments Men and Brian Percival‘s The Book Thief. Studio Babelsberg has come on board as a co-producer on all four projects.
