Though Jada Pinkett Smith is known for her edgier aesthetic — can we say Wicked Wisdom anyone? — this season’s Vionnet and Chloe collections have inspired her to experiment with softer looks.
The Magic Mike XXL actress, who was wearing an enviable Versace ensemble on the second day of the showings, said the Paris collections might inspire her to go soft.

“Usually I’m kind of fearful of that romantic, fluid feel, but I like this because it still had a bit of edge to it as well,” she told Pret-a-Reporter.
The Vionnet collection — the first with input from Hussein Chalayan under creative director Goga Ashkenazi — was architectural and conceptual, some of Chalayan’s signature touches. And while full of pleating and flowing fabric, it still had the tough rocker vibe Pinkett Smith loves.
“I looked at it and thought, ‘I can see myself in this,’ so that was something new for me. I tend to go a bit more hard and edgy, but I looked at this and thought, ‘This might inspire me to go a bit more soft.'”

“I’m also loving Chloe right now. Believe it or not, I’m moving into that softer feel,” said Pinkett, adding that “people watching” is her favorite Paris pastime, and while New York might be the city that never sleeps, Paris is the place where “anything goes.”

“As long as you are real and you can rock it, it’s welcomed with open arms,” she said of the city’s style.
Still, old sartorial habits die hard. Balmain, with Olivier Rousteing’s Kardashian-endorsed bondage babes, is her French fashion fave. “It’s got that edge that I love. Every time I put on the gear it fits.” Rock on.
