James Cameron, Vince Pace Team With BBC Earth, Evergreen on ‘Walking With Dinosaurs 3D’ Film

Reliance is financing the movie, and worldwide rights are being handled by its subsidiary IM Global. Fox holds U.S. rights and has scheduled the film for a late 2013 release.

The Cameron | Pace Fusion 3D camera system, used on features including Avatar and Transformers: Dark of the Moon and for live 3D broadcasts of sports including the U.S. Open Tennis Championship for CBS Sports, will be employed on Walking With Dinosaurs.

With the agreement, Evergreen becomes the first “CPG certified” company, meaning that it is exclusively adopting CPG technology for its 3D productions. Also on Evergreen’s plate is another 3D production, Enchanted Kingdom.

“Our goal was to create a brand name that was associated with quality in 3D,” Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter. “To do that, we had to have the best technology we could come up with in-house and operate that technology in the field, and most importantly we had to form alliances and partnerships with people who also want to do high-quality 3D. Evergreen and the BBC are perfect examples of this.”

Walking With Dinosaurs is in production in Alaska, where Evergreen is headquartered. The feature carries a $65 million budget and will benefit from production incentives offered in the state. The film is based on the hit TV show and the wildly successful arena show that it spawned.

Red Epic cameras also will be used in the live-action shooting, which will be combined with animation by Sydney-headquartered Animal Logic (Happy Feet).
