The garden is starting to bloom.
James Corden and Rose Byrne are in negotiations to star in Peter Rabbit, Sony’s live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of the children’s tale written by Beatrix Potter.
Will Gluck is on board to direct what is being described as a modern interpretation centering on the rivalry between mischievous young hopper Peter Rabbit and Mr. McGregor, a senior trying to keep a rabbit-free garden.
Corden would voice Peter Rabbit, while Byrne would take one of the live-action roles.
Gluck is producing with Zareh Nalbandian of Animal Logic Entertainment. Gluck also has been revising the latest draft of the script, which was written by Rob Lieber.
Lauren Abrahams is overseeing the project for the studio.
Corden is the British host of The Late Late Show With James Corden whose charm and antics, such as creating the viral hits “Carpool Karaoke,” have tremendously increased the profile of the CBS show, garnering it four Emmy nominations, and catapulted him to the American mainstream.
Byrne is the Australian actress who has been playing the role of Moira Mactaggert in the X-Men movies. Peter Rabbit reteams her with Gluck, for whom she starred in Sony’s 2014 remake of Annie.
Corden is repped by CAA, United Agents and Sloane Offer; Byrne is repped by CAA and RGM Artists.
